The Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development is a Paris-based think tank uniting 30 market democracies, providing a forum to address economic, social and governance challenges.
"I think if we take Russia's accession to the WTO as a starting point, we will need about three years [to join the OECD]," Sergei Storchak said.
He said that joining the OECD, formed after WWII to oversee the Marshall Plan for Europe's reconstruction, is a lengthy process that requires legislative adjustments and an improved national system for fostering sustainable development.
As part of its relations with other international organizations, the OECD has official contacts with the International Labor Organization, Food and Agriculture Organization, International Monetary Fund, World Bank, International Atomic Energy Agency, and many other United Nations bodies.
Russia earlier announced it has completed bilateral talks with all of the 60 members of the Working Party of the WTO, but has yet to sign bilateral protocols with some of them. It also has to complete multinational accession talks, which is expected to take half a year.
