MOSCOW, December 28 (RIA Novosti) - Investigators of the Russian Prosecutor General's Office have launched an inquiry into the financial activities of a government agency overseeing compliance with environmental regulations, a source inside the agency said Thursday.
Rosprirodnadzor is suspected of diverting some 100 million rubles ($3.8 million) in government allocations for research and development.
Speaking on condition of anonymity, the source said investigators are working on the agency's premises to check on the alleged misuse.
"The investigative team from the Prosecutor General's Office has been allotted a separate room in Rosprirodnadzor's headquarters to look into [alleged] offenses related to the use of R&D allocations from the Treasury."
The information has not been officially confirmed yet.
