MOSCOW, January 24 (RIA Novosti) - Transaero, an independent Russian air carrier, said Wednesday its income from financial and economic operations grew 37.84%, year-on-year, in 2006, to about 13.63 billion rubles (about $514 million).

The carrier, which was the first Russian operator to adopt Western jets in its fleet, said its income has risen six-fold in the past five years.

"Since 2002, the Transaero air company has been invariably operating at a profit. In 2005, the company's net profit totaled 179.75 million rubles (about $6.8 million). Following the results of 2006, this figure will be far surpassed," the company said in a news release.

In 2006, Transaero passenger traffic was 7.79 billion passenger/kilometers, or 47.49% more compared with 2005, the news release said.

The company logged 14,925 flights in 2006, or 20.48% more than in 2005, the news release said.
