MOSCOW, January 31 (RIA Novosti) - Russia's gross domestic product grew by an estimated 6.7% year-on-year in 2006 to 26.621 trillion rubles ($1.002 trillion), the national statistics body said Wednesday.
The economics ministry had earlier predicted GDP growth of 6.8% in 2006. In 2005, GDP rose 6.4%, and 7.2% in 2004.
The State Statistics Service said the construction sector registered the strongest growth in 2006, with its gross output expanding 14%. Growth was 1.7% in agriculture, 2.1% in mining and 4.9% in manufacturing industries, the service said.
Output gained around 10% in transport and communications, and the financial sector, and 8.7% in wholesale and retail trade, automotive and household appliance repair, the service said.
