MAKHACHKALA, February 4 (RIA Novosti) - Three policemen were killed in an attack by unidentified assailants in Makhachkala, the capital of the Republic of Dagestan in Russia's troubled North Caucasus region, the press office of the regional interior ministry said Sunday.
At 10:40 p.m. Moscow time (07:40 p.m. GMT) Saturday, unidentified persons opened fire at an investigator of the Dagestani interior ministry who was driving in his car. The investigator died from wounds, the press office said.
About thirty minutes later, two powerful explosions went off 300 meters away from the place of the investigator's death, killing two policemen in their police car, the press office said.
A criminal investigation has been launched, the press office said.
