Anatoly Chubais, speaking at a telephone conference on Friday, said Alexander Ryazanov had been offered the post of deputy head of the UES board's commission for investment projects.
Energy giant Gazprom refused last November to extend Ryazanov's contract, and relieved him of the posts of deputy chairman of the company's Management Committee, and of president of oil-producing subsidiary Gazprom Neft.
Russia's leading business daily Kommersant quoted sources close to Gazprom and Gazprom Neft as saying that Ryazanov's dismissal was due to disagreements with the gas giant's top management over the oil subsidiary's independence.
Andrei Zadernyuk, a member of the committee for strategy and reforms at the UES board, was appointed chairman of the new commission.
