President Vladimir Putin and King Abdullah II confirmed their "readiness to use the potential of Russian-Jordanian bilateral relations to promote collective international efforts on the elaboration of reliable solutions to these and other problems on a firm international legal basis."
The sides said in the statement that the resolution of the Palestinian-Israeli conflict based on the principle of co-existence is "a key to the settlement of the main regional crises threatening its security and stability, and the eradication of extremism and terrorism."
Putin, who proposed holding an international conference on the Middle East back in 2005, said the forum should be well prepared and "its agenda should cover all aspects of the [conflict] resolution, Palestinian, Lebanese and Syrian" and take into account the interests of the people living in the region.
According to the joint statement, Russia and Jordan agreed to continue cooperating to consolidate international stability and to ensure the non-proliferation of weapons of mass destruction, reiterating the need to respect the sovereignty and independence of all countries in the region.
Putin said his meetings in Saudi Arabia, Qatar and Jordan have confirmed common positions on the problems in the Middle East, North Africa and the Persian Gulf, and will open new opportunities for Russian-Arab cooperation.
