Sochi is the second venue for the IOC Evaluation Commission, who will carry out its evaluation from February 19 to 23; the first candidate city, South Korean city of PyeongChang, was inspected on February 14-17. On March 14-17 the commission will examine the third and the final city for the 2014 Olympics, which is Austria's Salzburg.
The 13-member Commission, headed by IOC Vice-President Chiharu Igaya, assesses all three candidate cities under 17 basic criteria, such as transport, accommodation, technology, media operations, environment and meteorology, finance, security, sports venues, Olympic villages and others.
The results of the commission should be summarized, published and submitted to all IOC members no later than one month before the official announcement of the 2014 Olympics host city, which will take place on July 4, 2007 during the 119th IOC Session in Guatemala City.
The commission will be studying briefing materials on February 19 and will kick off with an official on-sites inspection in Sochi on February 20.
