KIEV, February 20 (RIA Novosti) - Ukraine has placed a temporary ban on poultry imports from the Moscow Region over the suspected deadly bird flu virus, the country's veterinary watchdog said Tuesday.
Ukraine's veterinary authorities also banned poultry imports from the Krasnodar Territory in southern Russia January 31.
A total of 150 cases of avian flu were registered last week in various districts of the Moscow Region, all of which were traced to a single market in southwest Moscow. The Russian agricultural watchdog confirmed Monday that the outbreak involved the deadly H5N1 virus. No human cases have been registered so far.
Agriculture authorities in the Moscow Region said Tuesday another 75 poultry deaths had been registered southeast of Moscow, although the cause had not been established.
