On Monday, the World Court, or the International Court of Justice, cleared Serbia of accusations of genocide during the Bosnian war in 1992-1995, but said that Serbia nevertheless violated an obligation to prevent acts of genocide in Srebrenica (Bosnia and Herzegovina), when some 8,000 Bosnian males were killed.
"The ruling of the World Court is mandatory for the two states which are party to this case. We would hope that its adoption will put an end to their many-year dispute, and will turn the page on another hard period of history," ministry spokesman Mikhail Kamynin told journalists.
Bosnians and Serbs have been arguing for years whether or not genocide occurred during the Bosnian war, which left some 200,000 people dead. Bosnian Muslims have insisted that during the war, Serbs intended to kill all non-Serbs in Bosnia and Herzegovina.
