MOSCOW, March 4 (RIA Novosti) - Russian President Vladimir Putin has signed a federal law on ratifying the Russia-EU readmission deal, the Kremlin press office said Sunday.
Russia and the European Union signed the agreement on readmission at a Russia-EU summit held at the Black Sea resort of Sochi May 25, 2006. The law was passed by the State Duma, the lower house of Russia's parliament, February 14 and approved by the Federation Council, the upper chamber of the country's parliament, February 21, 2007.
The agreement on readmission aims to fight illegal migration. It provides conditions and grounds for the return of individuals illegally staying on the territory of Russia and EU member states.
