ROSTOV-ON-DON, March 4 (RIA Novosti) - A ten-year-old child has been killed and three persons could be trapped beneath snow after an avalanche hit a famous ski resort in southern Russia, the emergencies ministry said Sunday.
The avalanche hit Krasnaya Polyana near the Black Sea resort of Sochi at 3:10 p.m. Moscow time (12:10 p.m. GMT) Sunday, the ministry said.
"According to eye witnesses, there were four persons in the avalanche area," the ministry said.
At 4:35 p.m. Moscow time (1:35 p.m. GMT), the rescuers recovered a ten-year-old child from the snow, the ministry said.
"Regrettably, the resuscitation effort that lasted about half an hour did not yield any positive result," the ministry said.
Currently, more than thirty rescuers are working at the scene, the ministry said.
