The blast occurred in the city of Biisk in the Altai Territory on the premises of the Altai research and production center, which produces ammunition and explosives for industrial purposes.
"One victim was reported at 15.00 local time [9.00 GMT] - a power engineer was hospitalized with shock after sustaining bruising to the chest and abdomen. His life is not in danger," the press service of the local department of the Ministry of Emergency Situations said.
Center staff later discovered the body of the head of the electric shop.
The blast destroyed a building on the testing-ground and shattered windows in nearby houses.
The explosion posed no threat to the environment, the emergency service cited an Altai chief engineer as saying.
