MOSCOW, March 20 (RIA Novosti) - Russia will switch to Daylight Saving Time March 25, the Federal Agency on Technical Regulations and Metrology said Tuesday.
Under government regulations, Daylight Saving Time will be in effect in Russia from March 25, 2007 through October 27, 2007. Clocks will be turned forward one hour at 2:00 a.m. March 25, 2007, local time.
The main purpose of Daylight Saving Time, which is also called "Summer Time" in many countries, is to make better use of daylight hours. Countries have different change dates.
Daylight Saving Time is practiced in every European country except Iceland, as well as in many other countries around the world to save energy.
The first recorded time change in Russia was in 1917.
