LONDON, March 23 (RIA Novosti) - Iran has detained 15 Royal Navy personnel in Iraqi territorial waters, the British Ministry of Defense said.
The ministry said the British seamen were finishing an inspection of a merchant ship in accordance with UN regulations when they were surrounded by Iranian ships and escorted to Iraqi waters.
The British officials said they were discussing the issue with Iranian authorities, and had summoned the Iranian ambassador in Britain to the Foreign Office in London.
