NIZHNY NOVGOROD, March 24 (RIA Novosti) - Police have broken up an unauthorized opposition rally in the city of Nizhny Novgorod in Central Russia, a RIA Novosti correspondent reported Saturday.
The action, called March of Dissent, drew dozens of protesters.
As soon as they started chanting anti-government slogans, riot police surrounded them, blocking their way to the city's main street.
A police spokesman said about 30 people were detained and taken to a local police station.
No clashes have been reported.
