KIEV, March 26 (RIA Novosti) - About 230 miners are trapped underground following a fire at a coalmine in Eastern Ukraine, emergency services said Monday.
"A fire broke out at 3:33 p.m. Moscow time [11:33 a.m. GMT] at the Dzerzhinsky mine [in the Donetsk Region]," the service said, adding that 634 miners were working in the shaft at the time.
Of that number, 404 were evacuated, leaving 230 trapped below the surface.
In another accident earlier today, one miner was killed and another injured in the Zaporozhye Region when an ore mine caved in at a depth of 810 meters (2,400 feet).
