ANKARA, April 12 (RIA Novosti) - A woman planning to commit a terrorist attack on the Taksim central square of Istanbul in Turkey has been arrested, Turkish nationwide television news channel NTV said Thursday.
The TV channel cited police sources as saying that the masterminds planned to use 5.3 kg of plastic explosives placed inside a bag to carry out the attack.
NTV said the woman underwent subversive training in a foreign camp run by the separatist Kurdistan Workers Party (PKK).
Over 37,000 people have been killed in the conflict between Turkey and the PKK, which has been fighting for a so called independent Kurdistan in the southeast of the country since 1984.
Turkish authorities are categorically refusing to open dialogue with the separatists and are determined to use force to eliminate the PKK.
