NEW DELHI, April 20 (RIA Novosti) - The North Atlantic Alliance plans to enlarge and intensify its presence in Asia to meet new security challenges, a NATO deputy secretary general said Friday.
General Alessandro Minuto Rizzo, who arrived in India after a three-day visit to Afghanistan (April 16-18), said the expansion in NATO's area of operations requires a review of its original concept of defense, highlighting the need to intensify contacts with Asians countries, including India.
He said NATO is ready to cooperate with these countries in sharing experience and improving mechanisms to counter regional and global threats.
He also said the alliance could eventually launch partnership programs in relations with Asian states, although no such negotiations have been conducted yet.
