PARIS, April 22 (RIA Novosti) - France started voting Sunday morning in presidential elections, with right-wing candidate Nicolas Sarkozy and Socialist Segolene Royal seen as the main contenders for the president's office.
Polling stations opened at 8:00 a.m. (6:00 a.m. GMT), with 12 candidates representing various political parties and public organizations running for presidency.
A winner must gain more than 50% of the electors' votes. If there is no outright winner, the second round of voting between the two frontrunners will be held May 6.
