DAMASCUS, April 24 (RIA Novosti) - Fifteen people were killed and many wounded in a massive pileup on a Syrian motorway, an administration official of the Rif Dimashq province said.
Nineteen automobiles, including three trucks, an oil tanker and a bus, crashed about 200 kilometers (124 miles) from the capital, Damascus, Monday. The flames that erupted following the collision spread along the entire pileup. Firefighters and doctors could not reach the site quickly, leading to a higher death toll than might otherwise have been the case.
The accident occurred because the driver of a truck exceeded the speed limit and violated traffic rules in the conditions of a dust storm and poor visibility.
