BISHKEK, April 26 (RIA Novosti) - The Kyrgyz parliament has amended the country's criminal code to make killing in self-defense no longer a punishable offense, the country's justice minister said Thursday.
"We are switching from the principle of punishing excessive self-defense to make criminal laws more humane," Marat Kaiypov said. "From now on, citizens will have the right to take the toughest measures against culprits."
The minister said the draft law, which will come into effect if the president approves it, could reduce crime in the country.
