MOSCOW, May 6 (RIA Novosti) - Russia's embassy in Nigeria is checking information on the abduction of a Russian oil industry worker in the African country, an adviser to the diplomatic mission said Sunday.
The news agency Reuters reported May 6 that unknown gunmen had kidnapped Saturday night a Russian woman who worked as a senior executive with the company Whassan Eurest Nigeria Limited.
"So far, we have no such information. And I strongly doubt that a Russian can work in the transnational oil corporation. We have no such people on our records. We are now clearing up the situation," Viktor Goncharov said.
According to the Reuters report, the woman was kidnapped in Nigeria's main oil city of Port Harcourt.
Russia's Foreign Ministry is also checking the media reports about the abduction, its press and information department said.
