MOSCOW, May 10 (RIA Novosti) - Russian Air Force commander Vladimir Mikhailov, 63, was discharged for age, aide to defense minister Ilshat Baichurin said Thursday.
Mikhailov's chief of staff Boris Cheltsov, was also discharged weeks after turning 60, he told RIA Novosti, not specifying the reason in Cheltsov's case. Typically, top generals serve until the age of 60.
First deputy commander Alexander Zelin and commander of the strategic 37th Air Army Igor Khvorov will take over as commander and chief of staff, respectively, he said, adding other reshuffles of top Air Force officers would be made public soon.
