NOVOSIBIRSK, May 12 (RIA Novosti) - Unidentified people broke into a branch of Russia's state savings bank, Sberbank, Saturday, killed two security guards and stole more than 38 million rubles ($1.5 million), a local prosecutor said Saturday.

Anatoly Uskov said 9 oz of gold and 62 oz of silver bullions had also been stolen, adding that it was one of the most "cynical" robberies in the past ten years.

Bank employees could not enter their office Saturday morning because all doors had been locked. After the doors were opened, they found the bodies of the two security guards with handcuffs and scotch tape on their legs. The men had been apparently been killed from a Makarov pistol they had been armed with.

The alleged robbers left the office in a Toyota car owned by one of the security guards. The car had been taken from a closed garage of the bank but the doors of the garage had not been broken either.

Sberbank has declined to comment on the incident, but prosecutor Uskov said it was an unusual robbery. "The robbery had obviously been carefully planned, which can be seen in how it was perpetrated and the minimum traces that the robbers left," he said, adding that video cassettes had also been extracted from the surveillance cameras.

Uskov said the locks in the doors had not been damaged and had been obviously opened with the keys. "Investigators are studying several versions, mostly that the robbers could have stayed in the bank from the evening, or that they knew the security guards."
