DUSHANBE, May 18 (RIA Novosti) - Tajikistani law enforcement bodies seized over 17 kilos (37 lbs) of heroin at a regional office of one of the world's largest mail companies DHL in country's capital Dushanbe, a police source said Friday.
"The haul of heroin was hidden in a cache located in a refrigerator, which was about to be sent to Russia," the source said, adding that it was the second attempt to smuggle a large batch of heroin to Russia using DHL.
"In March of this year, law enforcement bodies confiscated a parcel containing 10 kilos of heroin," the source said.
The narcotics trade has become an acute problem for the impoverished Central Asian republic of Tajikistan due to a continual flow of illegal drugs from neighboring Afghanistan, the world's largest supplier of heroin and opium.
