MOSCOW, June 5 (RIA Novosti) - Former world No. 1 Maria Sharapova has reached the semifinals of the 2007 Roland Garros tennis tournament in France after defeating her compatriot Anna Chakvetadze Tuesday in a straight sets win 6-3, 6-4.
The 11th day of the prestigious tennis tournament running from May 27 to June 10 saw the winning streak of another Russian woman tennis player, beside Chakvetadze (seeded 9), come to an end, when Svetlana Kuznetsova (3) ceded to Serbia's Ana Ivanovic (7) in an erratic three set quarterfinal 0-6, 6-3, 1-6.
Ivanovic and Sharapova will now meet each other in the semis to decide who goes through to the final, while top-seeded and current world No. 1 Justine Henin from Belgium and Serbia's Jelena Jankovich (4) will play in the other semifinal encounter.
