GDANSK, June 8 (RIA Novosti) - Some 100 Polish antiglobalists are demonstrating against a visit by the U.S. president, who is scheduled to meet with the Polish president in Jurata, the presidential residence on the Baltic Sea coast, later Friday.

George Bush and Lech Kaczynski are expected to discuss issues related to the deployment of elements of a U.S. missile shield in Poland.

The protesters gathered in front of the main train station in Jurata demanding police, who are keeping them back, to allow them to proceed as their protest is legal.

In an interview with the Czech newspaper Mlada fronta Dnes May 28, Kaczynski described the potential deployment as "a purely defense-related issue." He said U.S. missiles would protect his country from "rogue states" such as Iran and North Korea.

The U.S. ABM could also give Warsaw a lever against Russia's influence, Polish Prime Minister Jaroslaw Kaczynski told Polish radio February 20.

The Kremlin responded angrily to U.S. plans, announced in January, saying U.S. missile bases in Europe could become targets for its pinpoint strikes.
