GROZNY, June 12 (RIA Novosti) - Two contract servicemen have been wounded in Chechnya after an explosive device went off in the Achkhoi-Martan District about 25 miles southwest of Grozny, a law enforcement source said Tuesday.
"An unidentified device exploded during reconnaissance and search operations in a forest," the source said, adding that doctors assessed the hospitalized servicemen's condition as satisfactory.
Another police spokesman said a big cache containing ammunition was discovered in the Russian North Caucasus republic's northeastern Shelkovskaya District.
Chechnya has been devastated by two military campaigns in 1994-1996 and 1999-2001, after which, Moscow has significantly scaled down its military presence in the republic. But random fighting and terrorist attacks still occur in the area spilling over to neighboring regions.
