BERLIN, June 22 (RIA Novosti) - Germany has increased security measures as the country's interior minister warned Friday of a direct threat of Islamist terrorist attacks in the country.
"On the basis of materials and analysis received recently, we have reached the conclusion that Germany and friendly European countries are now the focus of international Islamic terrorism," Wolfgang Schauble said.
The minister said terrorists had been regularly sending video messages containing threats to various German and European structures involved in the peacekeeping mission in Afghanistan.
"There is nothing qualitatively new in these messages, compared to previous video recordings, but in recent times we have seen that these threats come to life," Schauble said, citing a recent attack on the German peacekeeping contingent, when a suicide bomber killed several soldiers.
