The Chinese newspaper Xinjing Bao said two Russians rushed out of the Banana Club following a heated argument with other patrons. The two were severely beaten up by four unidentified assailants at a nearby parking lot.
However, a Russian diplomatic source told RIA Novosti the police reports identifying the victim as a Russian citizen had not been confirmed, although the police filed a report with the Russian consulate.
Chinese police have launched an investigation into the murder and was attempting to determine the identity of the assailants who fled the scene in a taxi cab, the paper said.
If confirmed, it would be the third murder of a Russian citizen in China this year.
A Russian tourist from Primoriye was found killed last week in a park in the resort of Wudalianchi, in Heilongjiang province in China's northeast.
In February a Russian woman was killed and another injured following a robbery in the city of Heihe.
