BAKU, June 28 (RIA Novosti) - More than 4,000 enterprises with Russian capital are active in the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS), a Russian economics ministry official said Thursday.
Yevgeny Vnukov, the head of the Economic Development and Trade Ministry's department dealing with CIS countries, told journalists the companies are involved in industry, trade and servicing, transport, the construction sector and the agro-industrial sector.
Vnukov said that as of the end of March, 1,200 such companies were registered in Ukraine, more than 700 in Kazakhstan, about 600 in Uzbekistan, about 500 in Moldova and over 400 in Azerbaijan.
He added that the overall volume of Russian investment in CIS countries as of the end of 2006 was $3.84 billion (direct 11.9%, portfolio 9.9%).
The CIS is a loose association of ex-Soviet republics.
