MOSCOW, July 3 (RIA Novosti) - Russia's Svetlana Kuznetsova has reached the quarterfinals of the prestigious Wimbledon Tennis Tournament in London after a straight sets victory over Tamira Paszek from Austria 6-3, 6-2, who was playing her first Wimbledon.
Although it may seem that the victory was an easy one for Kuznetsova her 16-year-old contender was not considered a weak opponent as Paszek had already knocked out two seeds on the way to the fourth round match.
Besides defeating France's Tatiana Golovin, seeded 12, the young Austrian also beat former French Open Finalist from Russia Yelena Dementyeva, seeded 17, 3-6, 6-2, 6-3 to meet Kuznetsova in the fourth round.
To reach the semifinals Kuznetsova will definitely need to play her best as she will meet the winner of the match between 2004 Wimbledon Champion Maria Sharapova from Russia (seeded 2) and three-times Wimbledon Champion (2000, 2001 and 2005) Venus Williams (seeded 23) from the United States.
