BISHKEK, July 9 (RIA Novosti) - A decision on Kosovo that is unfavorable to Belgrade and Pristina will not pass in the UN Security Council, Russia's foreign minister said Monday ahead of UN Security consultations on the status of the Serbian province.

"Any decision should be approved by all parties involved," Sergei Lavrov said. "Any other decision will not pass through the [UN] Security Council."

The minister reminded the press that Russia's stance "proceeds from international law, and is not dictated by artificial schemes."

The UN Security Council will consider Monday two Kosovo plans. Russia proposes further negotiations between Pristina, which has been seeking independence, and Belgrade until the two parties reach a compromise and has insisted that security be guaranteed for refugees returning to their homeland.

The other draft resolution on the Serbian province, backed by the United States, France and Britain, puts forward the Martti Ahtisaari plan, under which Kosovo would be granted independence after 120 days of negotiations.

The 120-day extension is seen as a compromise between the West and Russia, however Moscow has rejected the concession, calling it inadmissible.
