MOSCOW, July 18 (RIA Novosti) - A vehicle carrying soldiers has come under attack in Karabulak, in central Ingushetia, injuring one serviceman, a local police spokesman said over the telephone Wednesday.
"The attack took place at about 2:15 p.m. Moscow time," the source said. "Unidentified assailants opened fire with automatic weapons on a vehicle carrying federal servicemen. Preliminary reports said there were casualties."
An Ingush law enforcement source said the servicemen were driving to the 503rd Regiment base in a Zhiguli car, when the attack occurred.
An investigation has been launched.
A tripwire bomb explosion injured at least six people during the funeral of a murdered teacher and her two children in the North Caucasus republic of Ingushetia earlier in the day. Among the casualties were three police officers, and a woman who received severe leg injuries in the blast, police told RIA Novosti.
The last large scale attack took place in June 2004, when several groups of militants killed over 90 people in an attack on the 137th Border Unit base in Nazran, the Ingush capital, Karabulak and the village of Sleptsovskaya.
Four policemen were injured in attacks between March 11, and July 6, 2007.
