Vakha Vedizhev, a chief specialist at the Ingush Ministry of Public Relations, was shot dead by a group of unidentified assailants in the town of Karabulak on Saturday afternoon.
"The victim died from inflicted wounds on the way to a hospital," police said.
According to police, Vedizhev has been receiving death threats from extremists.
Attacks on troops, police and officials in the republic have stepped up recently.
The town of Karabulak to the northeast of Ingushetia's largest city, Nazran, was in the media spotlight earlier in July, when a deputy mayor was assassinated near his home.
In another development, a bomb detonated in Karabulak June 29 killed one person. Half an hour earlier, unknown gunmen attacked a car carrying special police, leaving no casualties.
