MOSCOW, July 22 (RIA Novosti) - Police detained eight suspects in an attack on an environmentalist camp in the Irkutsk Region in southeast Siberia, in which one person was killed and at least seven were injured, a police spokesman said.
At least 15 assailants raided Saturday morning a tent camp at the Yelovskoye Reservoir near the city of Angarsk occupied by a group of protesters against reprocessing of nuclear waste at a local plant.
Valery Gribakin said the suspects were young people under 22 years of age, including students and unemployed persons.
"They are currently giving evidence. The police are continuing their search for the other attackers," Gribakin said.
Overall, there were 21 environmentalists in the camp. The police have identified 13 suspects in the assault.
