MOSCOW, July 31 (RIA Novosti) - Russia's food safety watchdog said Tuesday it has started inspecting U.S. pork producers intending to export their produce to Russia.
"Two teams of Rosselkhoznadzor specialists have started inspections at U.S. pork slaughtering, processing and storage enterprises exporting to Russia," the agency said in a news release, adding that about 30 such enterprises will be checked.
The watchdog also said that its specialists completed checks of 29 poultry slaughtering and processing and 20 frozen poultry storage facilities in the United States in July.
"Based on analysis of the data obtained during the inspections, appropriate decisions will be made [on access to the Russian market]," the agency said.
