CAIRO, August 4 (RIA Novosti) - Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas and Israeli Prime Minister Ehud Olmert will meet in the West Bank town of Jericho Monday, a media adviser to the Palestinian leader said Saturday.
The leaders, who have met regularly in recent months, will discuss the possibility of starting final talks to resolve the Palestinian-Israeli conflict, Nabil Amr said. Israel has not yet commented on the meeting agenda.
Olmert and Abbas will meet following a visit to the region by U.S. Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice earlier this week and talk of preparations for a Middle East conference in the U.S. in the fall aimed at reviving peace efforts.
Abbas's new government, set up in the occupied West Bank following the Islamist group Hamas seized Gaza in June, has enjoyed increased international backing. It has joined Israel and the United States in boycotting Hamas, which has refused to recognize Israel and renounce violence.
