GROZNY, August 5 (RIA Novosti) - Two militants have been killed in a shootout with local police in the Republic of Chechnya in Russia's troubled North Caucasus region, the republic's interior ministry said Sunday.
During their search operation, the police detected two militants in a forest near the village of Stary Achkhoi in the Achkhoi-Martan district in western Chechnya. The militants refused to surrender and put up armed resistance, throwing a grenade at the police, the ministry said.
Two police suffered from shell shocks and were hospitalized, the ministry said.
The identity of the militants killed in the shootout is being established, the ministry said.
The police seized two Kalashnikov assault rifles and ammunition at the site of the armed clash, the ministry said.
