Russia's exports to the South American country, worth around $142 million per year, include steel, fertilizers, helicopters and plane parts. Russia also produces oil in the country, which has around 1.2 billion barrels of proven reserves.
Russia's largest independent crude producer LUKoil [RTS: LKOH] is one of the main oil producers operating in Colombia, Diego Jose Tobon Echeverri told RIA Novosti.
The ambassador noted the emergence of a coffee-drinking culture in Russia, and the growing popularity of Colombian coffee in the country. As well as providing a boost to the Colombia's economy, Russia's imports of agricultural goods help develop farming in the country, which provides a means of countering illegal drug production and therefore terrorism, he said.
He singled out a cooperation deal signed last week between Bogota and Moscow on the shipment of around 30,000 metric tons of beef annually to Russia.
However, Echeverri noted that the lack of a direct transport route hampers bilateral trade.
