NEW DELHI, August 12 (RIA Novosti) - At least eleven passengers have died and 40 others have received severe burns after a high voltage wire fell on their bus in northern India, the Press Trust of India news agency said Sunday.
The tragedy occurred in the Indian state of Uttar Pradesh when a passenger bus, on its way to Deoband, its destination point, contacted an 11,000 V wire on the roadside.
The current was so strong that the bus's tires burst on impact and fire began, the agency quoted local authorities as saying.
The injured passengers have been hospitalized, some of them in critical condition, the news agency said.
Local authorities believe the wire ruptured due to negligence of power network personnel.
