TBILISI, August 19 (RIA Novosti) - About fifty people have been injured after a bridge collapsed in western Georgia, a spokesman for the Georgian president's envoy to the region said Sunday.
The bridge across the Bakhvi River in the resort city of Bakhmaro in the South Caucasus republic's Racha region collapsed at about 4 p.m. Moscow time (12 p.m. GMT) Sunday after crowds of believers tried to cross it to get into a nearby church to celebrate Holy Transfiguration, the spokesman said.
The injured persons have been hospitalized, the spokesman said.
