MOSCOW, August 20 (RIA Novosti) - Russian Railways (RZD), the country's rail monopoly, said Monday its net profit, calculated to Russian Accounting Standards, doubled in the first six months of 2007, year-on-year, to 25.3 billion rubles ($1 billion).
RZD's earnings in the reporting period totaled 469.1 billion rubles ($18.5 billion), up 19%, year-on-year, while the company's gross earnings also doubled, to 58.67 billion rubles ($2.35 billion).
RZD carries over 1.3 billion passengers and 1.3 billion metric tons of cargo a year.
