ROME, August 24 (RIA Novosti) - Israeli President Shimon Peres will make his debut trip to Italy to meet with the Pope September 6, the press service of the Holy See said Friday.
Pope Benedict will receive Peres in his summer residence in Castel Gandolfo.
"The pontiff was in favor of Peres' request for the meeting," a spokesperson at Israel's Embassy to the Vatican said.
According to Israeli media, the new president will also meet with Italian President Giorgio Napolitano and Prime Minister Romano Prodi.
Peres, 83, was inaugurated July 15, after holding a number of high-ranking government posts, including twice as prime minister.
