SAMARA, August 25 (RIA Novosti) - Two people were killed and 284 left without roof as household gas exploded in a five-story residential building in the Russian city of Togliatti on the Volga River, an emergencies official said Saturday.
"Evacuated residents of building 53a on Lenin Street have been temporarily accommodated in school No.27. They have been provided with water and hot meals," Margarita Podlesnaya said.
She said that if gas and electricity supplies are restored by evening, some residents will be able to return to their apartments.
An investigation is underway. Preliminary data show that one of the dwellers installed a new gas stove before leaving for his country house, which resulted in the tragedy that also left two people hospitalized.
