Three Russians continue winning streak at U.S. Open

MOSCOW, September 6 (RIA Novosti) - On Day 10 of the U.S. Open Grand Slam tennis series running from August 27 to September 9, Russia's Nikolai Davydenko advanced to the semifinals of the tournament with a fifth straight victory.

The 26-year-old Russian, seeded 4th, advanced to the next stage of the $19.7 million tournament in New York after defeating Germany's Tommy Haas (10) in straight sets 6-3, 6-3, 6-4.

Davydenko will battle now for a place in the final against the top-seed and current U.S. Open Champion Roger Federer from Switzerland, who earlier defeated American Andy Roddick (5) 7-6 (7-5), 7-6 (7-4), 6-2.

In the women's singles Russia's 20-year-old Anna Chakvetadze was named player of the day after zipping past Israel's Shahar Peer (18) 6-4, 6-1 to secure a place in the semifinal, where she will meet her compatriot Svetlana Kuznetsova (4).

Kuznetsova, 22, also had a straight sets quarterfinal victory against Agnes Szavay from Hungary 6-1, 6-4.

Chakvetadze, who has not lost a single set in her five matches at Flushing Meadows in New York, has previously played Kuznetsova twice, but lost both matches.
