SYDNEY, September 9 (RIA Novosti) - President Vladimir Putin thanked leaders of Pacific Rim countries for backing Russia's bid to host the 2012 Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) summit, a Russian delegate said.

The 2007 APEC summit, which brought together the leaders of 21 countries that make up around 60% of the global economy, concluded in Sydney Sunday, producing tentative declarations on trade and climate change.

The delegate said that during the summit talks, "Vladimir Putin thanked leaders of APEC economies for their support for Russia's bid to hold the 2012 APEC summit in Vladivostok [in the country's Far East]."
