ROME, September 13 (RIA Novosti) - Hundreds of Italians have taken to the streets following calls by consumer associations to boycott the country's national dish, pasta, for a day in a protest at recent price hikes, local media said.
This autumn Italy is expecting price increases for gas, railway tickets, bread, milk, pasta, vegetable oil, school books and petrol.
Trade unions representatives are distributing pasta, bread and milk demanding a 5% cut in prices.
The recent heatwave across Europe severely affected grain crops and manufactures have warned consumers that pasta prices will rise by at least 20% in coming months.
