The Israeli military earlier announced it had hit a car in the Jebaliya refugee camp in northern Gaza, injuring two members of militant group Islamic Jihad. However, Al Kuds radio said the missile had missed the car.
Islamic Jihad claimed responsibility for a rocket attack on an Israeli military base near the border with the Gaza Strip early on Thursday. At least 69 recruits were injured when a Qasam rocket exploded in the Zikim training base near the border with the Gaza Strip.
Meanwhile, the Hamas government in Gaza called Thursday on Palestinian militants to stop rocket attacks on border crossings with Israel, to avoid hampering the delivery of goods to the territory during the holy month of Ramadan, which began today.
"In the interests of our people, the government calls on all Palestinian factions to stop firing at border checkpoints, especially during the sacred month of Ramadan, to and provide assistance to ensure the uninterrupted supply of goods, and maintain security and stability in Gaza," a Hamas government statement said.
The statement said the Hamas authorities would not tolerate insubordination, and would not allow militant groups to provoke Israel into tightening its economic blockade on the enclave, whose 1.5-million population fully depends on supplies of food and medicine by humanitarian aid organizations.
Gaza's main border crossings with Israel have been closed since Hamas took over the Gaza Strip three months ago in a violent coup. However, Israel allows aid groups to deliver scheduled shipments of basic supplies through smaller crossings, including Kerem Shalom and Erez.
Sporadic rocket attacks on these crossings have forced aid groups to temporarily suspend some shipments and triggered an angry response from Israeli officials, who threatened to toughen economic pressure on Hamas.
